No matter how good my intentions, nothing ever goes smoothly enough or timely enough to allow me to sit down to write. I simply never have enough time at the end of the day, or when I do have the time, I am too exhausted to form a coherent thought. It's a shame. I have so many thoughts and ideas to share with all of you. I also have days in which a good rant would do me good, and I'm sure, would put words to some of the thoughts a few of you have also held. I am going to try to be disciplined in setting some writing time aside on a regular basis. My hope is to not only cover concerns we hadn't yet had the opportunity to address, but also share some new challenges that have risen in my life with the adorable boy I call "Beastie".
Before I begin, I want to thank those of you who sent messages inquiring about my health. It went a long way in raising my spirits during a difficult time and you have my heartfelt thanks and appreciation.
Today, I will focus on bringing you all up to date with life as I know it.
The madness began in October 2013 when I was admitted to the hospital with a collapsed lung. It didn't take long for them to discover I had lung cancer and by the end of October I had surgery removing the lower half of my left lung. We moved my father into our home by Christmas and I began chemotherapy by the first week of January....(pausing to catch my breath before I continue). I had a very difficult time with chemotherapy due to a preexisting bone disease. I was placed on steroids to help manage the pain and it did seem to alleviate it some. I finished chemotherapy in March and found that not only had I gained nearly 50lbs. But, physically I was incredibly weak, so weak that I could barely push myself up from a reclining position. At the start of June I joined a gym and began working on getting the weight off and rebuilding my strength. For the most part I have been successful. I go to the gym for almost 3 hours a day 5 days each week and I have lost inches from my waist, chest and hips. Plus, my strength now exceeds what it was prior to my falling ill (Patting myself on the back).
Unfortunately, we began noticing my Dad getting thinner late last summer and he was soon diagnosed with bladder cancer. The Dr. has assured us that it is very treatable, but we have since been coping with his treatments.
My darling boy, Aaron, developed quite a stutter and speech issue during my illness and treatment. He has since begun going to speech therapy a couple of days each week. He is incredibly smart and charismatic, one of the true shining stars in my life. I have no doubt that he will be speaking fluently in no time.
Speaking of time...
My goal this year is to set aside time to resume writing regularly. I pray the worst is behind me and that I am able create many new articles for you, especially since it is also therapeutic for me! I don't expect this to be an easy feat. Between my Beastie, caring for my father, my trips to the gym and my plans to return to the workforce this year, I have no doubt it will be a struggle at times. There just isn't enough hours in a day to complete all the tasks I would like to get done. But, I'll do the best I can!
